The aim of the International Medical Olympicus Association, information about the 2nd Medical Olympiad and Advisors’ duties

“Aιεν αριστεύειν”- “Always best”
The aim and the activities of the Association
Medical Olympicus Association (MOA) aims to promote original and of social interest medical science research, technology and pharmacology, promote the Hippocratic ideas and teaching throughout the world and organize international events every 2-3 years, like the “Medical Olympiads”. MOA is a non-profit association run by university professors.
The Olympiads are of interest to physicians, physicists, chemists, radiopharmacists, technologists, nurses and others interested in the practice of all fields of Medicine.
The 1st Olympiad was held in Thessaloniki on 23-25 September 2011.
According to our constitution, the Mayor of Thessaloniki and the President of the Medical School of Thessaloniki or their replacers are members of our Board. An International Medical Advisory Committee, in collaboration with the Board of Directors of MOA, co-ordinates the international activities of the Olympiads.

The 2nd International Medical Olympiad
The 2nd International Medical Olympiad
The 2nd International Medical Olympiad, which was held on 18-20 October 2013 in Thessaloniki, Greece, was a great success. There were many participants from more than 20 countries from around the world. About 40 papers were selected for oral presentation among submitted papers twice this number. All papers had to be original and of social interest.
Another innovation of the Medical Olympiads is that the Organizing Committee poses questions for every paper accepted and the replies of the authors, along with an extended abstract of their paper(s), are published in the Archives Book distributed to all participants. All oral presentations may be published, after the Olympiad, as full papers in a special supplement issue, if the authors wish to do so.
As in all Olympiads there were no posters, round tables or free lectures. As it is customary, there was only one prototype lecture before the opening ceremony.
The 3 high prizes were awarded to papers referring as follows to:
a) a paper from USA, which showed evidence of diagnosing glioblastoma from a serum examination by N. Maounis.
b) a paper from Australia by T. Karagiannis, who identified in olive oil a new factor able to prevent the growth of cancer and
c) a paper from Democritus Centre, Greece by P. Alexiou, which showed evidence of making leukemia cancer cells more sensitive to anticancer drugs.
As the President of the Medical Olympicus Association noted: The fact that a paper is selected for oral presentation, is per se a distinction for the authors. Prizes for every specialty and distinctions were also awarded.
The participants had the chance to listen and participate in discussions that covered a broad field of original medical knowledge. This was a new experience for the audience who was able to communicate with colleagues from various medical specialties and express interesting thoughts and views. After the Meeting was over, many colleagues communicated with us with complimentary words about this Meeting. We wish that the Olympiads are creative, practical and pleasant.

The 3rd International Medical Olympiad
The next 3rd Olympiad will take place on 2-4 October 2015 in Thessaloniki, Greece with the special honorary cooperation of five countries (USA, Japan, India, UK and Italy). The deadline for submission of papers is September 15, 2015.
Papers must be submitted either in full text or in a shorter form that shall clearly indicate their originality, social importance and statistical value. Papers may be submitted via your National Advisors or directly to us through our e-mail address: molympicus (add @) gmail.com.
The Board of the International Medical Olympicus Association and the Advisors of the Olympiad will make every effort to organize an even better 3rd Olympiad.

Advisors are kindly requested to:
a) Inform colleagues of their scientific area about the aims of the International Medical Olympicus Association and about the 3rd Olympiad,
b) Collect from their country, papers submitted from all medical disciplines etc and, if they wish, evaluate them. If, for any reason, Advisors wish not to evaluate papers, they may send them to us for evaluation or ask that papers be sent directly to us.
c) They may wish to advise the Administrative Board of the International Medical Olympicus Association about the best means/tactics to organize the 3rd Olympiad. The Organizing Committee may often communicate with the Advisors.
We invite all medical specialties to participate in the 3rd International Medical Olympiad by submitting original papers of social interest through their National Advisors or directly through us.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee,

The President The Secretary
Prof. emer. P. Grammaticos
